Business Sustainability Practices at EasyStreet - posted by Day Tooley
EasyStreet is committed to becoming a more sustainable business.
Here’s where we are as of June 4, 2007.
Current practices include:
- A “Green Team” that includes our CEO, several executives, managers and staff members from all departments regularly meets to work on sustainability issues
- A recycling program with a high participation rate
- Recycled paper is used for routine office printing
- Using an internal application (ClearSpace) rather than printed manuals to document company procedures and projects
- Drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water
- Bike racks and showers to encourage commuting by bike
- TriMet passes for all employees
- Skylights and windows in our office space to minimize the use of artificial lights
- Using fluorescent and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL)
- 24/7 NOC and Support staff make sure lights are off during non-business hours
- Provide services that enable our customers to telecommute (Hosted Exchange, Internet access/VPN)
- High-efficiency bathroom fixtures (including low-flow toilets and motion-sensing water faucets)
- All conference room tables and chairs are from HON, a “green” furniture company
- Membership in the Westside Transportation Alliance
- Membership in the Sustainability Business Group
- We dine with stainless steel tableware (instead of plastic)
- Physical nourishment comes from china, glasses and mugs exclusively (instead of paper plates and cups)
- Purchase 50% of power to data center from renewable sources (PGE Clean Wind Program) with the goal to increase to 100%.
- Purchase 100% renewable power for EasyStreet offices
- Composting coffee grounds (we drink coffee 24/7)
- Our cleaning service contractor (contract with TerraClean uses “Green” practices.
Coming Soon practices:
Switching to full or partial renewable-power alternatives (approved!)
- Powering down computers/monitors nights & weekends
- Paperless ordering
- Power monitoring in the data center
Future practices under consideration:
- Asking landlord to use “greener” landscaping practices (low-flow water, minimum chemicals)
- Adding motion-sensing lights in appropriate areas (bathrooms, utility areas)
